Return to Ron's Log

The Monarch Brighton

The ad
That cheesy boulder with "Monarch" carved into it showed up just last weekend. It's the most pretentious thing in the neighborhood...unless you count Ron's Log.

Front view
Here's the state of the main entrance today (June 6, 2003). As you can see the brick goes up to the 3rd floor. The 4th floor is mostly bare, and the 5th floor is still mostly open air. When they brought in the landscaping a few weeks ago, they hoisted the porta-potty up to the then non-existent 5th floor. They are building the 5th floor around it now. I'm keeping a sharp eye to see if they make the mistake of actually closing it in and then have to get it out by dropping it down an elevator shaft. I make no apologies for the cables in the photo. It's a natural part of this "country setting." Same as car alarms. I'm pissed that the main entrance seems not to be handicap accesible. When you're designing from the ground up, it's easy to make a place accessible without retrofitting ramps. You can see the wonderful beech trees with their deep burgundy leaves framing left and right.

News Flash: apparently someone at The Monarch reads Ron's Log. Two hours after I first posted this page I went outside to discover that they had retrieved the penthouse porta-potty and brought it down to the parking lot. My source of entertainment is at an end.

Here's how most of the place looks today (June 6, 2003). This view is from the parking lot of Bread & Circus.
